A radiant Celebration of Light, Culture and Heritage took place on October 18th, 2025 at Gracie Mansion’s Conservancy in partnership with the International Museum of The Saree, Diwali was celebrated in style the Festival of Lights Tour. The afternoon opened with heartfelt remarks from Chioma Ohakam, GMC’s Director of Public Engagement, and guest speaker Dr. Vipul Patel, MD, who welcomed guests into “The People’s House.” They highlighted the importance of embracing cultural diversity, beauty, and unity within the historic halls of Gracie Mansion.

Guests were treated to an enchanting musical interlude by International Award Winning Artist world-renowned maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri, a leading figure in Indian Classical music. Performing on a 150-year-old sarangi passed down from his father, legendary Ustad Sabri Khan, Ustad Sabri’s soulful Diwali bhajans mesmerized the audience, bridging generations of musical tradition.

The evening continued with a moving poetic performance by Dr. Ashvini Persaud, who recited from the forthcoming  literary book “Saree To The New World” and its accompanying musical album. Dr. Persaud seamlessly wove together live poetry, audience participation, and musical collaboration with Ustad Kamal Sabri, transforming the moment into a living archive of art and connection. Wearing a vintage Gujarati saree featured in the International Museum of The Saree, she embodied the spirit of cultural preservation.

दिनांक ७ जुलै २०२५, मुंबई:- धारावी पुनर्विकास प्रकल्पाच्या नावाखाली सरकार व अदानी समूह धारावीतील गरिबांच्या हक्कांवर गदा आणत आहे.हा प्रकल्प सामान्य जनतेच्या हक्कांचे उल्लंघन असून, संपूर्ण प्रक्रियेत लोकशाही मूल्यांना आणि जनतेच्या आरोग्याला धक्का पोचवणारा आहे,अशी संतप्त प्रतिक्रिया बहुजन समाज पक्षाचे प्रदेशाध्यक्ष ऍड.सुनील डोंगरे यांनी सोमवारी (ता.७) व्यक्त केली. मुंबई येथे आयोजित पत्रकार परिषदेतून ऍड.डोंगरे यांनी केंद्र, राज्य सरकारसह अदानी समुहाच्या भूमिकेवर प्रश्नचिन्ह उपस्थित केले.राज्य महासचिव, पश्चिम महाराष्ट्र झोनचे मुख्य प्रभारी आणि पुण्याचे माजी नगरसेवक डॉ.हुलगेश चलवादी यांच्यासह पक्षाचे प्रमुख पदाधिकारी यावेळी उपस्थित होते. दरम्यान, बसपाच्या शिष्टमंडळाने धारावी पुनर्विकास प्रकल्पाचे मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी एस.व्ही.आर श्रीनिवास यांना निवेदन देत धारावीतील समस्यांबाबत अवगत करवले.प्रदेश सचिव नागसेन माला, इंजि.दादाराव उईके यावेळी उपस्थित होते.

धारावीतून लोकांना जबरदस्तीने हटवून देवनार डम्पिंग ग्राऊंडजवळ पुनर्वसित करण्याचा घाट घातला जातोय.केंद्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण मंडळाच्या नियमानुसार, डम्पिंग ग्राऊंडच्या जवळपास ५०० मीटर परिसरात कुठलेही बांधकाम कायदेशीरदृष्ट्याही चुकीचे आहे. अशा विषारी परिसरात घरे बांधून लोकांना स्थलांतरित करणे म्हणजे थेट त्यांच्या जिवाशी खेळ करण्यासारखे आहे, असे मत व्यक्त करीत ऍड.डोंगरे यांनी सरकारच्या हेतूंवर गंभीर प्रश्न उपस्थित केले.धारावीच्या आर्थिक, सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक जैवविविधतेचा विनाश करून या भागाचे ‘बीकेसी २’ करण्याचा व्यापारी हेतू आहे, असा आरोप त्यांनी केला.

अदानी समूह समाजसेवा नाही, तर व्यावसायिक उद्देशाने काम करतोय. धारावीतील लोकांनी वर्षानुवर्षे मुंबईच्या अर्थव्यवस्थेला पाठबळ दिले आहे. त्यांना घरे देणे सरकारचे उपकार नाही, तर सामाजिक व कायदेशीर जबाबदारी आहे,अशी स्पष्ट भूमिका बसपा ची असल्याचे ऍड.डोंगरे म्हणाले.

लघुउद्योगांचे काय?

प्रकल्पाच्या आराखड्यात फक्त घरांचे पुनर्वसन आहे, लघुउद्योगांचे नाही.धारावीतील हजारो लघुउद्योग, विशेषतः चामडा, वस्त्रनिर्मिती, अन्नप्रक्रिया, मातीशिल्प हे रोजगाराचे स्रोत आहेत.जर या उद्योगांचे पुनर्वसन नसेल, तर लोकांना नोकरीविना घरे देऊन आणखी गंभीर समस्या निर्माण होतील.प्रकल्पात पारदर्शकतेचा अभाव आहे.नागरिकांसह स्थानिक प्रतिनिधी, सामाजिक संस्थांना या प्रकल्पाची सविस्तर माहिती देण्यात आलेली नाही.अपात्रतेची कारणे, आर्थिक व्यवहार, पुनर्वसन निकष सर्व काही गोंधळात आहे. हा ‘टॉप-डाऊन’ दृष्टिकोन लोकशाही विरोधात आहे,असा आरोप बसपाचा आहे.

सरकारी जमिनींच्या खासगीकरणाचा डाव

धारावीतील ६०% हून अधिक जमीन सार्वजनिक मालकीची असून, ती खासगी कंपन्यांना विकणे म्हणजे जनतेच्या मालकीच्या संपत्तीचे खासगीकरण होय.धारावीतील सर्व रहिवाशांना पात्र ठरवून त्यांना त्यांच्या मूळ जागीच घरे देण्यात यावीत.सरकारने कुठल्याही सवलतीच्या नावाखाली वंचितांची थट्टा करू नये.बसपा ही नेहमीच शोषित, वंचित, कष्टकरी वर्गाच्या बाजूने उभी राहिल आणि त्यांच्या हक्कांसाठी झगडत राहील, असे प्रतिपादन प्रदेश महासचिव डॉ.हुलगेश चलवादी यांनी केले.

सर्वसामान्यांच्या मूलभूत हक्काचे उल्लंघन करू नका; सरकारला आवाहन
