Cannes: Indian filmmaker Chandrakant Singh added another milestone to his Cannes journey as he launched the trailer and poster of Hunger Game at the prestigious Bharat Pavilion during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.

The launch, supported by the National Film Development Corporation of India, witnessed the presence of international delegates, film enthusiasts and industry professionals, celebrating India’s growing footprint on the global cinema stage.

Known for consistently representing independent Indian cinema internationally, Chandrakant Singh marked his 10th visit to Cannes this year and his fifth participation with Indian short films at the festival.

Hunger Game focuses on the dark and disturbing reality of the beggar mafia system in India, shedding light on the organised exploitation operating behind begging rackets, especially around urban traffic signals. Through the short film, the filmmaker attempts to spark conversation around a deeply rooted social issue that often goes unnoticed.

Speaking at the launch event, Chandrakant Singh said:

Sadhna Sangar’s solo exhibition, ‘Celebration of Life,’ emerges from a deeply sustained relationship with nature, inner reflection, and emotional resilience. At a time when contemporary life is increasingly fractured by speed, anxiety, and visual excess, Sangar’s paintings offer something quietly radical: spaces of stillness, luminosity, and renewal. Her works do not attempt to dominate the viewer through drama; instead, they unfold gradually, like a remembered melody or the slow arrival of dawn after a long night.

Working through layered surfaces of colour, fluid gestures, and atmospheric abstraction, Sangar transforms natural forms into states of feeling. Mountains dissolve into light, rivers appear to breathe, trees become silent witnesses, and skies open into meditative expanses. Her canvases are not descriptions of physical landscapes alone; they are emotional terrains shaped by memory, devotion, solitude, and wonder. The recurring presence of flowing blues, radiant whites, burning oranges, and pulsating pinks creates a visual language that oscillates between serenity and intensity.

There is a spiritual undercurrent within Sangar’s practice, but it is never rigid or illustrative. Instead, spirituality appears here as sensitivity, a way of listening to the world rather than controlling it. Her paintings seem to emerge from moments of contemplation where nature is experienced not as backdrop, but as a living and conscious presence. Abhay Sinha President IMPPA And FFI Strongly Opposes DPIIT’s AI Copyright Proposal, Calls It A Threat To Cinema

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancing rapidly, it has led to increased conversations around protection of copyrighted material and personality rights. Now, Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) and the film industry at large find itself at crossroads. On February 4, IMPPA shot a letter to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), opposing its subsidiary Generative Artificial Intelligence and Copyright Committee’s proposal of Hybrid Copyright Licensing Framework for AI Training.

According to the proposal, AI developers – comprising individuals and corporate entities – would use “lawfully accessed copyrighted content for AI training as a matter of right” and the original copyright holders would get “fair compensation”. The “flat” compensation rate would be decided by the government-appointed committee, Copyright Royalties Collective for AI Training (CRCAT). Also, the compensation will be given not at the training stage, but only when the AI developer generates revenue from its content. The paper was published on December 8 by the DPIIT, which sought feedback from various fields.

In its letter to DPIIT, a copy of which is in  possession, IMPPA asserted that there is “widespread concern within the film, music, and entertainment industry” regarding the framework’s far-reaching consequences. The body, which includes producers Karan Johar, Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan, and many others, shot down the proposal that opens the floodgates to use copyrighted material.

Talking to Abhay Sinha, President, IMPPA, said that if implemented, it will adversely affect Indian film producers. “The government will take all decisions on its own. They will take our films, but we don’t know whether they will give us [adequate] money for it. We make films worth ‘100 crore! The film industry will incur huge losses. All our producers are in disagreement with what the government wants to introduce.”

Anil Nagrath, Secretary, IMPPA, revealed that the body sent its first letter on January 2, questioning why nobody was included in the committee and seeking an extension of the deadline. He said that most bodies are fundamentally opposed to the plan, adding, “How can you allow anybody to modify my content on a blanket permission, and pay me [any sum] you want? Suppose [somebody] makes a modified film on Dhurandhar [2025], and sells it to anybody they want. This will destroy the Indian film industry!”

Nagrath added that small films will be even worse hit with this move. He added that IMPPA has alerted producer bodies across the country. “We have sent [our] letter to the film producers bodies in the various cities of India. Indian Broadcasters Association and Producers Guild have also written letters to the DPIIT, opposing the proposal.”

AI developers, including individuals and corporate entities registered with Copyright Royalties Collective for AI Training (CRCAT), will use “lawfully accessed copyrighted content for AI training as a matter of right”. The original copyright holders will get “fair compensation”, which will be a “flat” rate decided by the CRCAT.

More than 35 bodies come under the purview of the proposed policy. It includes music bodies such as Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) and Indian Singers and Musicians Rights Association (ISAMRA), film bodies such as Producers Guild of India, and bodies in the publishing sector like Federation of Indian Publishers (FIP) and Association of Publishers in India.

In its February 4 letter, Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) opposed the proposal. It said that the approach is a “serious encroachment upon established rights and a direct threat to the long-term stability and viability of the creative sector.”

Hridaynath Mangeshkar Honours Legacy Of Love & Reverence On Entering His Glorious 89th Year With Didi Aani Mee

The lights dimmed at Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar Sabhagruha, but silence came first — not the silence of emptiness, but the silence before prayer. Didi Aani Mee was not a concert; it felt like a return to a home built of notes and memory. It honoured Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar and heralded the 89th birthday of Bhav Gandharva Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar — the younger brother who still speaks of her as an elder, a mentor, a divine force.

The Mangeshkar family —  Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Bharati Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Mangeshkar,  Adinath Mangeshkar — were present as guardians of an inheritance crafted by discipline, humility and sacred silences. Hon. Ashish Shelar, Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Swami Janmejayraje Vijaysinhraje Bhosale Maharaj of Akkalkot, Gautam Thakur, and artistes Roopkumar and Sonali Rathod were present — not merely as guests, but as witnesses to history breathing gently on stage.

When Hridaynath ji spoke, his words felt like a prayer whispered to his sister. “For us, Didi was the commander — the Senapati. We are only her soldiers. We simply follow the path she created. Her discipline, her dignity and her devotion to music still guide me every day.” The hall did not applaud; it absorbed.

Ashish Shelar shared stories the nation rarely heard — of Lata Didi speaking at Prabhu Kunj during photographer Mohan Bane’s book launch, describing cricket with such precision that even seasoned sportsmen were left astonished. And how, in this very auditorium, she once discussed ancient composers and India’s musical history with Hon. Home Minister Amit Shah — with such clarity that even time stood still to listen. “Her voice was immortal,” he said, “but so was her mind.”

Then came a moment of quiet grace. Swami Janmejayraje Vijaysinhraje Bhosale Maharaj, head of the royal house of Akkalkot, rose and said softly, “To be present here today is a blessing. To receive the affection and ashirwad of such an illustrious family like the Mangeshkars is my honour.” It was not a blessing offered — it was respect returned.

And then, legacy became commitment. In honour of Hridaynath Mangeshkar’s birthday, the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan made an announcement from the stage. They spoke of how the Trust was founded in 1988 by the Mangeshkar family to preserve the memory of Master Deenanath Mangeshkar and to organise his annual remembrance ceremony on 24 April — a tradition upheld continuously for 36 years. On that day, stalwarts from various fields are honoured, and music flows as prayer. The Trust has honoured over 225 personalities so far and supported many artists in need.

Since 2022, the Trust has also been bestowing the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award to individuals who have made unparalleled contributions to India. The recipients so far — Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Asha Bhosle, Amitabh Bachchan and Kumar Mangalam Birla — reflect the magnitude of this honour.

Ravindra Joshi, Trustee of the Pratishtaan, further announced that every 28 September, Lata Didi’s birthday, a special musical programme is held in Pune, where young artists are blessed by Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar. The programme has become a tradition — complete with music, memories, and a meal prepared with Lata Didi’s favourite dishes. To ensure that this legacy continues forever, the Trust declared the creation of a separate permanent fund. All income generated from this fund will be dedicated exclusively to organising this annual programme. A committee — Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Bharati Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar,  Adinath Mangeshkar, Swami Janmejayraje Vijaysinhraje Bhosale Maharaj, Ravindra Joshi, Shirish Rairikar, and Nischal Latad will oversee it. And as the first offering, Hridaynath Mangeshkar himself announced a contribution of ₹25 lakh. Contributions from well-wishers were welcomed with grace. The Trust remains a registered public charitable institution in Pune, eligible for income tax exemptions on donations.

The evening ended not with applause, but with folded hands, moist eyes and quiet reverence. Because some lives do not end — they become the air left behind after music stops.

दिदी आनी मी – संगीत, स्मृति और सम्मान की मधुर संध्या, जहां पंडित ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर ने अपने 89वें वर्ष की शुरुआत पर भारत रत्न लता मंगेशकर के प्रति प्रेम और कृतज्ञता को प्रणाम किया

मुंबई के पंडित दीनानाथ मंगेशकर सभागृह में जब रोशनी धीमी हुई, तो सबसे पहले शांति उतरी — वह शांति जो आरती से पहले होती है, स्मरण से पहले होती है। ‘दिदी आनी मी’ सिर्फ एक कार्यक्रम नहीं था, बल्कि यह स्वर और स्मृति से सजे हुए उस घर की वापसी थी, जिसका नाम है — लता मंगेशकर। इसी भावनाओं से भरे वातावरण में पंडित ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर ने अपने जीवन के 89वें वर्ष में प्रवेश किया — वही ह्रदयनाथ जी, जो आज भी अपनी बहन को आदर से “दिदी” कहकर याद करते हैं।

मंच पर मंगेशकर परिवार की उपस्थिति स्वयं विरासत की प्रतीक थी — पंडित ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर, भारती मंगेशकर, उषा मंगेशकर, मीना मंगेशकर और आदिनाथ मंगेशकर। इनके साथ माननीय अशिष शेलार, प्रतिष्ठित वैज्ञानिक डॉ. अनिल काकोडकर, अक्कलकोट राजघराने के स्वामी जंजमेयराजे विजयसिंहराजे भोसले महाराज, सारस्वत बैंक के सीएमडी गौतम ठाकुर तथा कलाकार रूपकुमार और सोनाली राठौड़ भी इस संध्या के साक्षी बने।

जब पंडित ह्रदयनाथ जी ने मंच संभाला, तो उनके शब्द प्रार्थना की तरह लगे। उन्होंने कहा — “हम सबके लिए दिदी सेनापति थीं। हम तो बस उनके सैनिक हैं। उन्होंने जो राह दिखाई, हम केवल उसी पर चल रहे हैं। उनकी अनुशासन, उनकी मर्यादा और संगीत के प्रति उनका समर्पण आज भी मेरा मार्गदर्शन करता है।” पूरा सभागार उनकी भावनाओं के साथ स्थिर हो गया।

माननीय अशिष शेलार ने लता दीदी की बुद्धिमत्ता और गहराई को याद करते हुए बताया कि प्रभुकुंज में फोटोग्राफर मोहन बाणे की पुस्तक के विमोचन के समय उन्होंने क्रिकेट पर ऐसी सटीक समझ के साथ बात की कि सब दंग रह गए। और कैसे इसी सभागार में उन्होंने गृह मंत्री अमित शाह के साथ संगीतकारों और भारतीय संगीत इतिहास पर ऐसा गहन संवाद किया कि समय भी ठहरता-सा लगने लगा। उन्होंने कहा — “उनकी आवाज़ अमर थी, लेकिन उनका मस्तिष्क भी उतना ही अद्वितीय था।”

इसी दौरान अक्कलकोट के स्वामी जंजमेयराजे विजयसिंहराजे भोसले महाराज ने विनम्रता से कहा —“आज यहां उपस्थित होना मेरे लिए आशीर्वाद के समान है। मंगेशकर जैसे महान परिवार का स्नेह और आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करना मेरे लिए सम्मान है।”उनके यह शब्द आशीर्वाद नहीं, विनम्रता से झुका हुआ मस्तक थे।

इसके बाद स्मृति से संकल्प की ओर बढ़ते हुए मास्टर दीनानाथ मंगेशकर स्मृति प्रतिष्ठान ने घोषणा की। बताया गया कि यह ट्रस्ट वर्ष 1988 में मंगेशकर परिवार द्वारा स्थापित किया गया था, जिसका उद्देश्य हर वर्ष 24 अप्रैल को मास्टर दीनानाथ जी की पुण्यतिथि पर स्मृति समारोह आयोजित करना है। पिछले 36 वर्षों से यह परंपरा बिना रुके निभाई जा रही है, और अब तक 225 से अधिक विभूतियों को सम्मानित किया जा चुका है।

सन् 2022 से इस प्रतिष्ठान द्वारा ‘लता दीनानाथ मंगेशकर पुरस्कार’ भी प्रदान किया जा रहा है — जिसके अब तक के प्राप्तकर्ता हैं प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, आशा भोसले, अमिताभ बच्चन और कुमाfर मंगलम बिड़ला।

ट्रस्टी रविंद्र जोशी ने घोषणा की कि हर वर्ष 28 सितंबर — लता दीदी का जन्मदिन — पुणे में आयोजित होने वाले इस विशेष संगीत समारोह को सदैव जारी रखने के लिए एक स्थायी निधि (Corpus Fund) बनाई जा रही है। इस निधि से होने वाली आय केवल इस वार्षिक स्मृति कार्यक्रम के लिए उपयोग की जाएगी। इस समिति में पंडित ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर, भारती मंगेशकर, उषा मंगेशकर, आदिनाथ मंगेशकर, स्वामी जंजमेयराजे विजयसिंहराजे भोसले महाराज, रविंद्र जोशी,a dm शिरीष रैरीकर और निष्कल लताड़ शामिल रहेंगे। इस निधि के प्रारंभ हेतु पंडित ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर ने स्वयं ₹25 लाख का योगदान घोषित किया।

यह प्रतिष्ठान पुणे के चैरिटी कमिश्नर कार्यालय में पंजीकृत है तथा आयकर विभाग द्वारा अनुमोदित है, जिससे दी गई दानराशि पर आयकर में छूट का लाभ मिलता है।

संध्या का समापन तालियों से नहीं, बल्कि भीगी आंखों, जुड़ी हथेलियों और मौन श्रद्धा से हुआ। कुछ आवाज़ें समाप्त नहीं होतीं — वे हवा बनकर हमारे साथ रहती हैं, संगीत रुकने के बाद भी ।

‘दिदी आणी मी’ — संगीत, स्मृती आणि स्नेहाचा सोहळा, पं. ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर यांनी भारतरत्न लता दीदींच्या प्रेम व परंपरेला दिलेली कृतज्ञ अभिवादनाअंतर्गत त्यांच्या ८९ व्या वर्षात प्रवेशाचा भावपूर्ण उत्सव

पंडित दीनानाथ मंगेशकर सभागृहात दिवे मंदावले आणि पहिल्यांदा शांतता उतरली — रिकामेपणाची नाही, तर प्रार्थनेपूर्वीची. ‘दिदी आणी मी’ हा केवळ एक कार्यक्रम नव्हता; तो सुरांच्या घरात पुन्हा परतण्याचा क्षण होता. हा सोहळा भारतरत्न लता मंगेशकर यांना समर्पित होता आणि त्याच वेळी भाऊगंधर्व पंडित ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर यांच्या ८९ व्या वर्षाच्या प्रारंभाचा साक्षीदारदेखील होता — तेच ह्रदयनाथजी, जे आजही त्यांना ‘दिदी’ म्हणूनच स्मरतात — मार्गदर्शक, प्रेरणास्रोत, आणि कृपेचे अधिष्ठान.

ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर, भारती मंगेशकर, उषा मंगेशकर, मीनाताई मंगेशकर, आदिनाथ मंगेशकर — हे सर्व परिवारातील ज्येष्ठ आणि वारशाचे संरक्षक उपस्थित होते. या क्षणाचे साक्षीदार होते — मा. अशिष शेलार, डॉ. अनिल काकोडकर, अक्कलकोट संस्थानचे महाराज श्री स्वामी जंजमेयराजे विजयसिंहराजे भोसले, गौतम ठाकूर, रूपकुमार आणि सोनाली राठोड — पाहुणे म्हणून नव्हे, तर इतिहासाला साक्ष देणारे साक्षीदार म्हणून.

जेव्हा ह्रदयनाथजी बोलायला उठले, त्यांचे शब्द बहिणीला वाहिलेल्या शांत प्रार्थनेसारखे वाटले. त्यांनी सांगितले — “आमच्यासाठी दिदी म्हणजे सेनापती. आम्ही फक्त त्यांचे सैनिक. त्यांनी दाखवलेला मार्गच आम्ही चालत आलो आहोत. त्यांची शिस्त, त्यांची मर्यादा, संगीताशी त्यांचं निष्ठावान नातं — हेच अजूनही आम्हाला मार्ग दाखवतं.” सभागृह थबकलं — टाळ्यांसाठी नव्हे, तर भावनांना मोकळं होण्यासाठी.

यानंतर मा. अशिष शेलार यांनी लतादीदींच्या अलभ्य आठवणी उलगडल्या. प्रभुकुंज येथे छायाचित्रकार मोहन बाणे यांच्या पुस्तक प्रकाशनावेळी लतादीदींनी क्रिकेटचे असे तपशीलवार विश्लेषण केले, की अनुभवी क्रीडापटूही थक्क झाले. आणि याच सभागृहात, एकदा त्यांनी मा. गृहमंत्री अमित शहांसोबत भारतीय संगीताच्या इतिहासावर केलेले सखोल चिंतन — असा शेलारजींनी उल्लेख करत म्हटलं — “त्यांचा आवाज अमर होता, पण त्यांची बुद्धीही तितकीच अद्वितीय होती.”

यानंतर सभागृहात एक राजेशाही शांतता उतरली. अक्कलकोट संस्थानचे स्वामी जंजमेयराजे विजयसिंहराजे भोसले महाराज अत्यंत नम्रतेने उभे राहिले आणि म्हणाले —“इथे उपस्थित राहणे ही माझ्यासाठी आशीर्वादासारखी अनुभूती आहे. मंगेशकरांसारख्या दिग्गज कुटुंबाकडून स्नेह आणि आशीर्वाद मिळणे — हाच माझा सन्मान आहे.”हे आशीर्वाद नव्हते — हे कृतज्ञतेने झुकलेलं मानवी नम्रतेचं सौंदर्य होतं.

आणि मग वारसा झाला संकल्प.मास्टर दीनानाथ मंगेशकर स्मृती प्रतिष्ठानतर्फे जाहीर करण्यात आले की — सन १९८८ मध्ये स्थापन झालेल्या या विश्वस्त संस्थेने गेली ३६ वर्षे दि. २४ एप्रिल रोजी मास्टर दीनानाथजींच्या पुण्यतिथीचे स्मरण अत्यंत निष्ठेने साजरे केले आहे. आतापर्यंत २२५ हून अधिक मान्यवरांचा सन्मान झाला आहे आणि अनेक कलावंतांना मदतही करण्यात आली आहे.

सन २०२२ पासून ‘लता दीनानाथ मंगेशकर पुरस्कार’ही प्रदान केला जात आहे. पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी, आशा भोसले, अमिताभ बच्चन आणि कुमार मंगलम बिर्ला हे आजवरचे मानकरी.

रविंद्र जोशी यांनी पुढे सांगितले — की दरवर्षी २८ सप्टेंबरला, पुण्यात लतादीदींच्या जन्मदिनानिमित्त आयोजित होणारा संगीताचा सोहळा अखंडितपणे सुरू राहावा म्हणून एक संकल्पनिधी / कायमस्वरूपी निधी उभारण्यात येत आहे. या निधीवरील व्याजातून या सोहळ्याचे सर्व खर्च उचलले जातील. ह्रदयनाथजींनी स्वतः रु.२५ लाखांची देणगी प्रथम नोंदवली. भारती मंगेशकर, उषा मंगेशकर, ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकर, आदिनाथ मंगेशकर, स्वामी जंजमेयराजे भोसले, रविंद्र जोशी, शिरीष रैरीकर आणि निष्कळ लटाड या समिती सदस्यांच्या देखरेखीखाली हा उपक्रम पार पडेल.

कार्यक्रमाचा शेवट टाळ्यांनी झाला नाही — तर ओलावलेल्या डोळ्यांनी, जपून धरलेल्या शांततेने आणि दुमदुमणाऱ्या भावनेने. काही आवाज थांबत नाहीत. ते विरून जात नाहीत. ते हवेचा श्वास होतात — आणि संगीत थांबल्यानंतरही जगत राहतात.
