Landscapes of the Soul: A Journey Through Art with Jesal Dalal & Hemali Shah

If youтАЩre in Mumbai between April 22 and 28, make some time to step into a space that offers more than just art on walls. Landscapes of the Soul, a two-woman show by artists Jesal Dalal and Hemali Shah, is opening at the Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Worli, and it promises to be an experience of quiet beauty and deep reflection.

This isnтАЩt your typical art exhibition. Jesal and Hemali, though very different in style, come together with a shared intent: to express the unspoken тАФ those silent emotions, fleeting thoughts, and inner landscapes we all carry but often canтАЩt describe. Their work doesnтАЩt shout for attention. Instead, it gently pulls you in.

JESAL DALAL

JesalтАЩs art feels like a breath of fresh air тАФ or more accurately, like standing alone in a wide open space, surrounded by nature, and finally hearing yourself think. Using watercolours as her main medium, she leans into subtle hues, soft brushwork, and the play of light. Her paintings donтАЩt just show you a scene; they ask you to feel it. Interestingly, Jesal didnтАЩt start out as an Artist. She dabbled in architecture and interior design before discovering that painting was her real calling. Mostly self-taught, her artistic path has taken her across India and even to international exhibitions. Whether itтАЩs the way she uses chiaroscuro for emotional depth or the way she lets form dissolve into the atmosphere, her work speaks of introspection and the search for peace.

Her paintings are not about specific places. TheyтАЩre about states of mind.

HEMALI SHAH

HemaliтАЩs journey with art began with Disney cartoons, but today, sheтАЩs painting nature through a lens of realism touched by emotion. Her background in Fine Arts, especially her time at C. N. Vidyalaya, gave her the foundation to grow, but itтАЩs her connection to the natural world that fuels her creativity. Working primarily in watercolours, Hemali blends technical skill with a personal colour palette thatтАЩs uniquely hers. Her pieces often reflect the way she sees the world тАФ not just whatтАЩs there, but what it means. ThereтАЩs something deeply grounded in her work, yet you can feel her heart in every brushstroke. For her, painting is more than a craft. ItтАЩs a way of life, a perspective shift, and a means of becoming more aware and compassionate.

Landscapes of the Soul is about more than showcasing art тАФ itтАЩs about creating a space for emotion, reflection, and connection. Jesal and Hemali donтАЩt just paint what they see; they paint what they feel, and in doing so, they give us permission to feel too. Whether youтАЩre an art lover, a creative soul, or someone who simply needs a break from the cityтАЩs noise, this exhibition offers something rare тАФ silence, softness, and space to just be.

The show was inaugurated on 22nd April 2025 by Honourable Guests –┬аAmol Pawar, Nishikant Palande (┬аRenowned Artists),┬аSumeet Rajani┬а(Director – Art Gallery Edgewise Ventures P.Ltd),┬аAugustine Chalissery(Founder & CEO SystemsIntegra) among others.

There are paintings that capture your sight and then there are those that quietly enter your thoughts, linger in your imagination, and bloom with every passing moment. Cascade of Shades, a solo exhibition by Ragini Sinkar, belongs to the latter. Every painting in this series bridges gap between imagination and perception.

This show was inaugurated on 21st April 2025 by Honourable Guests┬аAchyut Palav(Master Calligrapher and Designer, Pamashree 2025),Ashok Dugade(Chairman & Managing Trustee, Saturday Club),Sanjay Deore(Managing Director, SKD Consultants Pvt. Ltd.) among others.

Each canvas in Cascade of Shades feels alive with motionтАФnot in the literal sense, but in how it unfolds across time and mood. A painting seen in morning light might feel entirely different by dusk. These are not static pieces, they evolve with the viewer.

Built with translucent layers, subtle contrasts, and a keen eye for harmony, RaginiтАЩs abstract compositions explore the delicate bridge between perception and imagination. Her work invites you to pause, to reflect, to lose and perhaps find yourself within shifting tones and textures.

A graduate of Sir J.J. School of Art, Ragini completed her A.T.D. in 1998 with first rank, followed by a B.F.A. in Drawing and Painting in 2002. Over the years, her work has been exhibited at some of MumbaiтАЩs most prestigious galleries, including multiple solo and group shows at Jehangir, Nehru Centre, and Cymroza Art Gallery.

Her achievements include awards for design, object drawing, portraiture, sketching, and collage, and she has actively contributed to the Indian art scene through platforms such as the Art Society of India, Camlin Art Foundation, Bombay Art Society, and several women-led exhibitions.

The Most Prestigious Ceremony “Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award 2025” Will Be Held On 3rd May, The Evening Will Be Decorated With Stars

On the occasion of the 156th birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian film industry, a grand award ceremony is being organized by the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation. The tradition of honoring the best artists and technicians of the film industry with the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award has been going on for many years. The main objective of this award to be held this year on 3 May 2025 at Mukesh Patel Auditorium in Mumbai is to appreciate the work of the behind-the-scenes technicians, laborers and artists like dancers, junior artists, fighters and encourage them by giving them the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award.

Every year many well-known stars and veterans of the film industry participate in this program by contributing.

32 associations of the film world nominate their most deserving members for this award and recommend them to the foundation. Around 75 awards will be distributed to film, TV serial, web series stars, singers and producer directors in the presence of the chief guest and around 2000 Bollywood personalities.

Foundation President Mr. Ashfaq Khopekar, Senior Vice President Babu Bhai Thiba and Vice President Ashok Shekhar and Vice President Vasudha Pandya have taken charge of this program. Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award is actually a mission. Around 5 lakh members of more than 32 associations of the film world by bringing them together under one ideology. This is to set an example in the world by bringing everyone from spot boy to superstar on one platform forgetting the difference between big and small.

Ashfaq Khopekar says that it is unfortunate that some unsuccessful film and non-film people who have taken over the association with the help of some selfish people of the association can stop it for a few days by creating obstacles in the completion of this mission but cannot end it. People are taking advantage by getting awards done by making similar names of Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Award. Members of the film world have to struggle for work till their last breath. No government scheme is applicable to the people of the film industry while entertainment is the only industry which pays huge amount of tax to the government. In such a situation, the people of the industry have no support except their own organization, but now many film associations have been taken over by anti-social elements and the government and the bigwigs of the industry are silent. Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation is not limited to just awards but has been formed with the purpose of serving the people of the film industry and fighting for their rights. The next step of the foundation is to start medical help for the members and education help and housing scheme for their children soon.

With the hard work and dedication of the foundation’s president Ashfaq Khopekar and senior vice president Babu Bhai Thiba, the workers, technicians, artists, journalists and producers of the film industry have been able to gather at one place for many years through this work.
