Chancellor Sajid Javid retains top position on GG2 Power List

The 21^st GG2 Leadership Awards celebrated the achievements of some of the UK’s most prominent ethnic leaders on a glittering evening. The GG2 Leadership Awards showcase ethnic achievement, talent and leadership in the UK. This year’s winners once more proved to be torchbearers for ethnic communities and leadership in their respective fields.

The prestigious GG2 Hammer Award, an accolade presented to a high achieving individual who has shattered the proverbial glass ceiling, was given to Nitin Paranjpe, global Chief Operating Officer of Unilever. His success and achievements at one of the world’s most valuable companies were celebrated on a night when some of the UK’s most successful leaders from diverse communities were honoured for their achievements.

The GG2 Man of the Year was awarded to Viswas Raghavan, CEO of JP Morgan (EMEA), honoured for his formidable leadership of one of the world’s most recognised investment banks.

Poppy Jaman, CEO of City Mental Health Alliance and one of the UK’s most prominent advocates for mental health collected the GG2 Woman of the Year award. Coincidently, she was honoured on World Mental Health Day, and on collecting her award said: Poppy Jaman quote TBC

Chief guest on the night Sajid Javid, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, retained the top position on this year’s GG2 Power List, a glossy annual publication which is revealed on the night of the GG2 Leadership Awards and profiles the 101 most influential Asians in Britain. Javid became the first British Asian Chancellor earlier this year and alongside Home Secretary Priti Patel, ensures that two of the four top positions in the cabinet are occupied by British Asians for the first time.

Sajid Javid said: “I am honoured to be recognised on the GG2 Power List once more and I am proud to live in a Britain where anyone can become Chancellor, whatever their background. Each person on this year’s Power List has their own story to tell, but the example they set to young Asian women and men is helping to create a better and brighter future for Britain. I commend and congratulate them all.”

On a glittering evening hosted by BBC presenter Nihal Arthanayake at London’s Park Plaza Westminster, some of the UK’s most prominent Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community leaders and achievers were celebrated.

Winners on the night included GG2 Pride of Britain Award winner Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, Emeritus Professor of Nursing at the University of West London; Media and Creative Arts winner Mohit Bakaya, controller of BBC Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra; and Outstanding Achievement in Science winner Caucher Birkar, Professor of Mathematics at University of Cambridge.

This year’s nominees and winners come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and professionals from the fields of business, politics, creative arts, media, medicine and law were celebrated.

The GG2 Leadership Awards and the reveal of the GG2 Power List were a culmination of a day in which the GG2 Diversity Conference also took place and saw both corporate and community leaders come together to discuss the importance of diversity, inclusion and representation in the UK on a variety of panels.

Film Review: Film “Love in College”

This week’s release, producer Vinod Kumar and director Vishan Yadav’s film “Love in College” is an eye-opening film for youth, especially college going boys and girls as well as their parents. The film made under the banner of RV Series Motion Pictures, shows the growing trend of drugs in college and its bad effects on youth. Dialogues from the film “Love in College” is the essence of its story. One of the dialogues says “We give the status of the temple to the school college, but some people have made it a den of drugs.” This is a bitter truth of today’s society, which is effectively introduced in the film.

Performance and chemistry of lead pair Sapan Krishna and Priya Gupta is another highlight of the film. Actors like Ahsaan Qureshi, Kiran Kumar and Mushtaq Khan have delivered impactful performances.

Songs of the film have also become very popular. Singers like Shaan, Sushmita Yadav and Sparsh Rathore have lent their voice to the soulful tracks in the film, which has been released by Zee Music Company. The film is released by distributor Shamshad Pathan under his banner SK Enterprises.

 

The writer of this film is Ahmadhasan Siddiqui and Music is composed by Vinod Kumar, Rajesh Ghayal and Shyam Soni and arranged by Arabinda Neog. Songs are choreographed by Narendra Chauhan and Sarfaraz Khan.

In the film’s nail biting climax, Kiran Kumar has an inspiring dialogue “The way parents leave their children in school, parents should also go visit colleges to see in which environment their children are studying.”

Its a must watch for today’s youth as well as the older generation.

आज के रिश्ते को बुनियादी तौर पर मजबूत करती है ‘लव शॉट्स’

सेक्स के विषय में जब भी चर्चा होती है लोग इस विषय में बात करने से बचना चाहते है। सेक्स शब्द सुनते ही लोगों को शर्मिंदगी का अहसास होता है। सरकार भी सेक्स के प्रति जागरूकता फैलाने और उससे होने वाली बीमारियों और दुष्प्रभाव से बचने के लिए पाठ्यक्रम में इसको लागू करना चाहती है। कई फ़िल्म स्टार ने इस विषय पर खुलकर बात की है और लोगों को जागरूक किया है पर असल बात कहाँ से शुरू करनी है और समाज के लोगों की सोच कैसे बदलनी पड़ेगी इस पर फ़िल्म के कहानीकार और निर्देशक ने बेहतर काम किया है।

फ़िल्म की कहानी एक ऐसी लड़की अन्विता (अन्विता राय) की है जो आज के खुले विचारों वाली है, हमेशा सच बोलती है और जिंदगी का मज़ा लेना चाहती है। इसी चाहत में उसे विशाल से क्रश हो जाता है वह उस पर समर्पित हो जाती है, जॉब में उसे आंद्रे मिलता है और उसके साथ भी वो जिंदगी का मजा लेना चाहती है, ऐसे ही वह अपने बेस्ट फ्रेंड से भी संबंध बना लेती है। अन्विता जिंदगी की मौज और क्षणिक प्रेम की आशा में कई लड़कों से संबंध बना लेती है।

एक दिन उसकी मुलाकात ब्यूटीपार्लर में गिरवान से होती है। पहली मुलाकात में गिरवान को प्यार हो जाता है। दोनों की मुलाकातें होती है फिर शादी हो जाती है पर अन्विता के अतीत की गलतियां उसके वर्तमान को ध्वस्त करने लगती है। अन्विता स्वयं के सम्मान को समाज, पति और परिवार में वापस कैसे हासिल करती है, इस प्रश्न का उत्तर फ़िल्म में बहुत सी अदभुत ढंग से प्रदर्शित किया गया है। यह समाज के दकियानूसी सोच को भी आहत करती है और एक नारी के उद्वेदना को सटीक तरीके से दर्शाती है।

मैडजग फिल्म्स के बैनर तले बनी निर्मात्री अल्पा ओबेरॉय की फिल्म ‘लव शॉट्स’ के डायलॉग अच्छे हैं जो कि सामाजिक दायरों में बंधे हुए हैं। यह फ़िल्म युवाओं के लिए समर्पित है। फ़िल्म का मुख्य सूत्रधार और अभिनेत्री अन्विता है जिन्होंने बहुत सुंदर अभिनय किया है। अन्य कलाकार रवनीत सिंह, शशांक शर्मा, रोहन आनंद, रैना वशिष्ठ, सुधा चंद्रन, राजेश पूरी, पुष्पा वर्मा का अभिनय ठीक ठाक है। फ़िल्म में पृथ्वीराज ओबेरॉय का निर्देशन उम्दा है साथ ही संगीत कहानी को आगे बढ़ने में सहायक सिद्ध होता है। फ़िल्म के माध्यम से आज के समय में लड़खड़ाती युवा पीढ़ी को मैसेज दिया गया है।
